Task mining software: captures, privacy notices and limits

Updated

Task mining records what people do on screen, step by step, to find the work that could be automated. That makes it the most personal kind of process data, and the vendors' public documents say little about it.

What the vendors publish

Of the 15 platforms on our board, the task-mining vendors publish privacy notices and product pages rather than customer terms, and none of what we read answers who owns a capture or whether it may train AI.

Why captures are hard to license

A capture shows a named employee's activity on a computer, which is what Connecticut's statute calls electronic monitoring and what needs prior written notice there. Event logs from business systems are organised around the case, an order or a ticket, and the user fields in them can be removed before anything is offered.
