When the company changes hands
Process mining company or data-rich business: who takes the logs
Updated
Years of event history describe how a business actually runs. Buyers who license operational records say on their own pages what they take, and a sale or closure decides who can sign.
Buyers that name operational records
Grepped asks for records, tables, logs and exports from the systems that run the business, Nyne names CRM, HR, ERP and support records from core systems, and micro1 licenses large-scale operational datasets across teams and business functions.

Who signs when the company is closing

Who agrees to that sale turns on whether anyone has been appointed. The directors decide while the company is simply winding down. Once a liquidator is appointed, in a solvent members' liquidation as much as an insolvent one, the directors' powers cease and the liquidator decides, and in administration the administrator does.

If a creditor, the directors or a shareholder asks the court to wind the company up and the court makes the order, the winding up counts from the day the petition was presented, so a sale made after that day is void unless the court orders otherwise.

Leave it until after the company is dissolved and nobody at the company can sell the logs: whatever it still owned then belongs to the Crown.

What buyers say about personal details
SimpleClosure says every dataset is processed for personal information before it is licensed, and Maryah, which now runs a marketplace that finds buyers for a company's records, says it reviews each dataset and its licensing rights before approaching them.
